Movies I Want to See in 2013

This list is ambitious. If this year turns out anything like last year I will fail miserably in seeing most of these movies in the theater. Nonetheless, I will try. My absolute must sees are in bold.

  • Gangster Squad
  • The Last Stand (saw it!)
  • Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters
  • Warm Bodies
  • Oz the Great and Powerful
  • Iron Man 3
  • The Great Gatsby
  • Star Trek into Darkness
  • Man of Steel
  • This is the End
  • World War Z
  • Kick-Ass 2
  • The Lone Ranger
  • The Wolverine
  • RED 2
  • Elysium
  • Riddick
  • The Tomb
  • Sin City: A Dame to Kill For
  • The World’s End
  • Thor: Dark World
  • Anchorman: The Legend Continues
  • Jack Ryan
  • The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

I’ll set my goal to at least 6 again. That’s achievable. Maybe. We’ll see.

Movies I Saw in 2012

The following is a list of movies I saw in the theater in 2012. I had a list of movies I wanted to see in the theater, but I fulfilled my goal quite poorly. Luckily all of the movies I did see were totally worth it.

21 Jump Street – Hilarious. Just hilarious. Even if you didn’t watch the original series, this is definitely worth seeing. (Saw this with my mom)

The Avengers – Instantly became my favorite super hero movie. Still is. Very funny, and brought the characters together for a fun adventure. Yeah, the getting them together part was drawn out a bit too much, and having the Hulk trapped inside a flying fortress wasn’t the best idea on anyone’s part, but I had a lot of fun every time I saw it, damn it! (Saw this with my mom in 2D, and by myself in 3D)

The Dark Knight Rises – A great conclusion to a fine trilogy. I liked it more than the previous two films, and the last 5 minutes or so really sold it for me. I didn’t like it quite as much as the Avengers though. (Saw this with Kirbie)

Argo – I loved this movie, my favorite of the year. Of all time even. Yes, even better than the Avengers! Everyone who loves films should see it. (Saw this with Kirbie)

Skyfall – This movie wasn’t even really on my radar until the video for Adele’s theme song popped up. That sold me on it, and I’m glad I went to see it because it’s the most entertained I’ve been by a James Bond film yet. I’m not a superfan or anything, but the references to the franchise’s history I did get made me all giddy. (Saw this with my brother-in-law)

Life of Pi – I tried reading the book years ago, but lost interest. I kind of knew the plot and stuff because my mom loved the book and told me what she thought were the most important parts. Obviously she wanted to go see the movie, so I went with her. I thought at the very least it will be interesting. Turned out to be amazing. It was a bit on the long side, but once I got past the first half hour I was totally on board. (Saw this with my mom)

My goal was to see at least 6 movies, so I guess I did barely succeed. I saw a ton of 2012’s releases on DVD such as That’s My Boy, People Like Us, Premium Rush, The Cabin in the Woods and more. The movie I most wanted to see was Cirque Du Soleil: Worlds Apart but there’s still time for that since it’s only been out a couple weeks!

I guess I’ll keep my goal for this year conservative, so stay tuned for a list of the movies I want to see in 2013!

August 29, 2012 – Birthday

Amazon has perfect timing, these movies I ordered a week or so ago arrived today just in time for my birthday. I’ve been slowly but surely working on my blu-ray collection of all of my favorite movies and tv shows.

THX 1138 – George Lucas’ first movie. Yeah he remastered this with all kinds of new effects shots etc. but it expanded the scale of the film. I was however disappointed that there wasn’t anything on this blu-ray that wasn’t on the dvd, I was mostly hoping for the original theatrical version. Nonetheless, awesome movie that I enjoy more than most of the Star Wars movies. (HOW DARE I!?)

Transporter – This movie is just badass.

Transporter 2 – More badass. Jason Statham is awesome. That’s all there is to it.

Next on my list for movies… Crank and Crank High Voltage (Crank 2). Conveniently they are available as a combo pack, if anyone wants to get it for me ;-)

Oh yeah, birthday stuff. My mom and I went to Olive Garden for a late lunch / early dinner and I stuffed my face with pasta, orange italian creme soda, salad, bread sticks, and tiramisu. Fantastic! After that I pretty much passed out because I was so full of those tasty carbs. Maybe I’ll go for a bike ride tomorrow to try and compensate for it.

That’s it really, thanks to everyone who sent me birthday wishes on facebook, twitter, text messages, instagram, carrier pigeon, sky writing… See ya tomorrow for my first of 364 consecutive non-birthdays!

Movies I Want to See in 2012

These are movies I’m going to try to see in theater this year, since last year I sadly only saw 5 movies. In order by planned release date. (Crossed out movies I missed my chance to see in the theater, bold movies I did get to see in the theater)

The Adventures of Tintin (saw on video)

Red Tails

The Secret World of Arrietty

John Carter

21 Jump Street

The Pirates! Band of Misfits

Safe (maybe)

The Dictator (maybe)

Men in Black III (definitely)

GI Joe: Retaliation

The Dark Knight Rises (definitely)

Total Recall

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (maybe)

World War Z

The Great Gatsby

That’s three movies I will definitely see this year, I’m not likely going to see any movies that come out in July and August other than The Dark Knight Rises, so I’m really glad that The Avengers has a May release.

If there are any movies you’re excited for that you think I should add to the list, let me know in the comments! Thanks for reading!

Movies I Saw in 2011

The following are movies I saw in the theater in 2011 (that also came out in 2011, so no Black Swan which I’m sure I saw for the third time in early January) in order of release date.

I really enjoyed this movie, the premise is really interesting and Bradley Cooper on screen with Robert De Niro was pretty great. It is one of those movies that does that annoying movie about a writer thing, but at least he’s only a writer for the first act and the very beginning of the second act, so I don’t think it completely counts. Solid sci-fi thriller. I give this one a “need to buy on blu-ray.”

As you may know from yesterday’s JKIRE Awards, this was my favorite movie of the year. It’s basically everything great about Kill Bill (the action with a strong female lead) and Tron (amazing music) with a fairytale theme (possibly in a Lost sort of way). Saoirse Ronan is amazing. I’ve never been an Eric Bana or Cate Blanchett fan, but they were great too. I give this one a “preordered the blu-ray on amazon.”

Lots of action, cool mythology stuff, great special effects, really funny, and Natalie Portman. What more can you ask for? I never really read the Thor comics, so diehard fans may have had problems with it, but hey, look at all the Avengers movies as their own separate continuity and bask in it’s awesomeness. I give this one a “bought the blu-ray on release day but regretted not getting the 3D edition despite not having a 3D TV.”

Captain America: The First Avenger
Almost as good as Thor. I didn’t see it in 3D so I don’t know how that aspect of it holds up to Thor… but the action was great, it was also very funny, and the final steps are taken that lead us to the Avengers movie. I can’t wait. We also got plenty of Hugo Weaving and Tommy Lee Jones. Can’t complain about that, two great actors. I give this one a “bought the blu-ray on release day.”

The Muppets
Hilarious. I was in tears laughing through most of the movie. Amazing songs by Bret Mackenzie of Flight of the Conchords, this movie basically felt like an extension of the HBO series due to that and the director of both, James Bobin. Jason Segel and the barrage of great comic actors mostly from television made a television addict like me go nuts. This and Hanna are the only movies I saw twice in the theater. I give this one a “will definitely buy the blu-ray on release day, and even bought all three seasons of the muppet show on dvd just to get free tickets to see it again.”

And now I realize I only saw 5 movies in the theater last year… Wow. I’m sure I missed out on some great films (I know I would have loved Planet of the Apes in the theater, for example) so I’ll make an effort to see at least 6 movies in 2012.

Thanks for reading, and keep watching the skies!
